Energy Rebate Centre key eligibility criteria

Participants must:
  • 1. in the case of efficient, natural gas fired boilers and water heaters, receive natural gas service from FortisBC under any rate class except rates 1 and 1U.
  • 2. in the case of all other measures, receive electric service from FortisBC or municipal utilities under a commercial, industrial or irrigation rate class.
  • 3. in the case of efficient, natural gas fired boilers, water heaters and commercial food service equipment, be the Property Owner or Long Term Lease Holder (lease 120 months or more) where the rebate eligible product will be installed.
  • Products must:
  • 4. be listed on FortisBC’s eligible product list, at the time of purchase.
  • 5. be installed in one of the following areas: FortisBC electric service area, Grand Forks, City of Kelowna, Summerland, Penticton or Nelson Hydro.
  • Projects must:
  • 6. not be installations for new construction or major renovation projects.
  • 7. be a minimum of $50.00 total rebate per application and for electric measures be a maximum of $20,000 rebate per application.
  • 8. be fully installed prior to the application for rebate.

Checklist

The following documentation must be submitted to FortisBC in order to receive a rebate:

Natural Gas Rebates
  • Completed and signed Product Rebate Program Application form within 90 days of the Product installation date;
  • Completed Gas Notification of Completion, Installation or Alteration indicating the contractor’s license no. and gas fitter no;
  • Completed Certificate of Boiler Inspection from the BC Safety Authority if available; and
  • Copy of the proof of purchase being an invoice, payable by the applicant, indicating the make, model number and serial number of the natural gas appliance(s) purchased and installed.
  • Rebate applications for natural gas space or pool heating boilers may also require the following:
Electric Rebates
  • Completed and signed Product Rebate Program Application form within 90 days of the Product purchase date;
  • Copy of the paid invoice or receipt indicating the make and model number of product purchased and installed. Additional documentation such as cut sheets should also be included to indicate compliance to product performance criteria (see electric product list for specific product performance requirements); and
  • Copy of the electrical and all other required permit(s) including variances as necessary.
